Carey, I like most of what you have to say and agree with you. I think more video editors need to give FCP X a shot though as it is much better than anything else out there including Avid and Premiere Pro. I downloaded a tutorial series on itunes made by Ripple Training and once i got started with FCPX I began to unleash its power. If video editors like yourself can get over some of the differences and embrace FCPX (which is the best software out there anyway) then the future of the MacPro tower would be secure.

I just read director Paul Devlin's excellent article about his Income Tax battle and filmmaker Lee Storey's Income Tax battle.
In both instances, all they wanted to do was make films.
But instead they ended up spending countless amounts of money in addition to endless hours under horrific stress trying to prove that the movies they make are a business and not a hobby.

This is an utter and total waste of time that only exists because of this country's current, confusing and mind numbing Income Tax laws.

If the Income Tax system used by this country with all of its complexity and contradictions was actually simplified or totally gotten rid of and replaced with any number of other very simple tax systems (Flat tax, Fair tax, etc.), then both these two individuals could have avoided the stressful, expensive and time consuming tax audits that they have endured.

To pour your life savings into filmmaking that does not make you a profit (you actually lose money) and then come to find out that the government auditors claim you owe them thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on top of your losses, not to mention the legal fees you now have to pay to defend yourself, well this is not a tax system that can sustain itself too much longer.

The main thing I got out of reading the article is that there are major problems existing in our current Income Tax code. And the solution does not lie in continuing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars battling it, instead the solution lies in doing away with the 75,000 page tax code and then simplifying the system. I hope both Mr. Devlin and Ms. Storey realize that that is what has to happen next if they do not want to have others end up in similar messes to the one they found themselves in.

It's not so bad. A whole new group of frustrated people are about to feel a creative freedom they only dream t of before they discovered Sony Vegas Pro10. FCP and Apple's undying arrogance will not be missed anywhere that I know.

herojig...I'm simply pointing out that Apple could have minimized the overwhelming negative response by doing this one simple thing. If they don't care about the negative response, that's their business but I don't understand why any company that sells products to consumers would want their consumers to think of them in a negative light. I agree much of the "whining" is unwarrented, based on misinformation or not enough information about the product. But, again, Apple could have avoided that by just doing what I suggested. Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. Either way, thanks for reading and commenting.

I think an equally important part of such a statement would be a section explaining Apple's future commitment to the Pro community. Are they in or out? What business wants to invest time and money into products that have no future? Like it or not, Apple needs to represent itself as a business partner, not just a developer and manufacturer of software and hardware. And as a partner, it is Apple's responsibility and simply good business to be up front with the professional video community.

Nightmare for whom? Only for the folks trying to get some work done and get (work-related) answers about FCPX on Apple Discussions, which is not clogged with apple haters, adobe and avid fanbois, and whiny "editors" wishing for the olden days. This blog post is just another example. What a waste of time...

I haven't used it yet...and it doesn't even matter whether I like it or not. The reports I've heard from people using it are actually pretty positive. The point of my post is that Apple's complete failure to launch the application correctly resulted in a nightmare of a backlash, and it could have easily been avoided. Hopefully, somebody there will learn the lesson.

I got a response like this once for a different type of request and was tempted to ask, "So, if I gave you two million dollars cash, the answer would be no?"

Video is the best way to your attention. Make it short and use it a lot. It is not the wave of the future it is now.
